Slægt (dk) – Ván Records

Slægt from Copenhagen, Denmark have cemented their place as one of the most important and exciting metal bands to come out of their native country in recent years. Defying the DNA blueprint of traditional Scandinavian black metal, instead forging their own lineage anew from the roots of their predecessors and with a vicious and at times unpredictable live show, Slægt have created something truly unique.

Beginning as a one-man black metal project in 2011, the band grew into a group and developed a signature sound of their own, combining well-known styles with influences from beyond the sphere of hard rock and heavy metal. With six releases to their name, three European tours and appearances at major festivals they have built a strong following and achieved critical acclaim both at home and internationally.

“Amalgamation leads to the redefinition of genres. At our core, we draw from a wide range of genres, styles and time periods and we combine them in a way that speaks to us deeply. We have many shades on our palette, both light and dark. These are, as in life, interwoven and become ever-changing constants.” – Slægt

Relying on composition and raw power to expose an immense, authentic energy, Slægt continues to push their evolution further by laying down deep roots of their own.

ARES KINGDOM (us) – Nuclear War Now!

Ares Kingdom began in late 1996 when former Order From Chaos drummer Mike Miller and guitarist Chuck Keller regrouped following the split of their previous band a year earlier.  A three song demo was released in early 1997.  They continued as a two piece until 2000 when bassist/vocalist Alex Blume, formerly of the cult American band Nepenthe, joined the ranks alongside Doug Overbay.  From there the band released the “Chaosmongers Alive” EP in 2003, the full length album “Return to Dust” and “Firestorm Redemption” 12″ EP in 2006, “Failsafe” 12″ EP in 2007, “Firestorms and Chaos” compilation CD in 2008, “Incendiary” full length in 2010, “Veneration” covers album in 2013, third full length album “The Unburiable Dead” in 2015 and their latest album “By the Light of Their Destruction” from 2019.

The band’s style is firmly rooted in the old school of death and thrash metal, taking cues from bands such as Venom, Sodom, Bathory, Celtic Frost, Voivod, and Slaughter Lord, as well as classic heavy metal of the 1970s and ’80s.  The band is self-sufficient and built their own studio for recording their releases, and has worked with NWN! Productions on every release since 2006.

Ares Kingdom has played more than 50 shows across the United States and Canada. Until now the band has only appeared in Europe three times at the NWN! Festival in Berlin.  AK has shared stages with bands such as Destroyer 666, Nifelheim, Inquisition, Archgoat, Angelcorpse, Gospel of the Horns, Midnight, Cianide, Destructor, Black Witchery, Sanctum, Nocturnal Graves, Scepter, Blasphemy, Demigod, Antaeus, Mournful Congregation, Sabbat, The Chasm, Adorior, Gates of Slumber, Revenge, Mystifier, Superchrist, Morbosidad, Ketzer, Rotting Christ, and Abigail – among others.

BLOOD INCANTATION (us) – Dark Descent Records

Blood Incantation Promo_webBlood Incantation is an American death metal band from Denver, Colorado, formed in 2011. The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Paul Riedl, guitarist Morris Kolontyrsky, drummer Isaac Faulk and bassist Jeff Barrett. Their debut album, Starspawn, was released in 2016 through Dark Descent Records and received critical acclaim from music publications such as Decibel and Stereogum.

The band’s sound features “a psychedelic take on classic death metal” and melds “technicality with tectonic riffs, cavernous vocals and eerie, Dodsengel-like moments of caustic stillness.” On the band’s style, Stereogum’s Aaron Lariviere wrote: “Screaming leads cut a swath through the churn of atonal rhythm guitars, blending the bright melodicism of late-period Death with the alien tones of Morbid Angel circa Domination.” The band’s lyrics mainly deal with topics such as space and death.

CEREBRAL ROT (us) – 20 Buck Spin

Continuing to extract the deadliest beings from the dankest corners of the Northwest, 20 Buck Spin summons from the festering swamp soaked murk the revolting mutation that is Cerebral Rot. Like sewage winding its way through tunnels below the street, Cerebral Rot’s music reeks with the stench of vulgarity and noxious body fumes.

Embalmed in an analog toxic dump the debut LP ‘Odious Descent Into Decay’ melts the skin with radioactive brutality and gurgling bursts of punishing cruelty. Virulent subterranean Death Metal glistening with pustular fallout and obscure rotten air left too long on the morgue table, the skin peels off and the last gasp of life echoes terrifyingly within.

A rank abomination of disgust ‘Odious Descent Into Decay’ relies not on over technicality but disfiguring physical violence and battering submission in its quest for the true embodiment of sub-underground Death as it morphs from one wet distorted monstrosity to another. Like the miserable mess of decayed forms on the cover, the septic sickness of Cerebral Rot has only just begun to spread.

COFFIN TEXTS (us) – Dark Descent Records

Coffin Texts was created on Dec 1st. 1994 self-releasing their debut “God’s of Creation, Death & Afterlife” in 1995 on cassette. The band performed a US tour in 1996 with Infamy and Cephalic Carnage, Milwaukee Metal fest 1999 and 2000, The Infernal Storm U.S. Tour 2000 with Incantation and Skinless following the Full Album Digi-pack version release of “God’s of Creation” via Dwell Records.

In 2003 the band released a 3 song demo titled “Tomb of Infinite Ritual” which lead to the full length version titled “The Tomb of Infinite Ritual” in 2012 via Dark Decent Records (U.S)/Blood Harvest Records (Europe). In 2016, Unholy Domain Records (Italy) released the Re-mix 3 song 10” E.P with songs taken from “The Tomb Of Infinite Ritual” titled “Deities Of The Prime Evil Chaos”.

With 2 members of the legendary band Possessed, Robert Cardenas (bass) and Emilio Marquez (drums), Coffin Texts are preparing to enter the studio with Guitarist Richard Gonzales for a 2020 release date. On this release, the band will be collaborating with some of the most legendary artist in metal to prepare this long awaited release via Dark Decent Records.

CORPSESSED (fin) – Dark Descent Records

Corpsessed plays abyssal and harrowing death metal, drawing influences and combining the suffocating and crushing tones of doom metal, and the ghastly ominousness of black metal and horror movie soundtracks – weaving it all within the style of rotting and brutal early 90s oldschool death metal, especially in the Finnish style and tradition. This is what CORPSESSED are all about.

Corpsessed was spawned from putrescent slime in 2007 at the rotting houses of delta-area  Ärvenpää, Finland. The 5-piece band started honing their abyssal death metal tunes and officially released their first EP titled “The Dagger & The Chalice” on CD by Dark Descent Records (USA) and on vinyl by Me Saco Un Ojo (UK) in 2011.

Corpsessed’s debut full length album titled “Abysmal Thresholds” was released in the beginning of 2014, and strengthened the band as one of the current torch bearers of Finnish death metal.

2018 saw the year of the bands second full-length “Impetus of Death”, an album that manages to top it its predecessors in terms of heaviness and brutality while taking their epic sound a step further.

The band is known for their dark brand of death metal that harks back to the old days of early 90s and has received high praise for their hard-hitting and suffocating live shows, appearing in such festivals as Netherlands DeathFest (NL), Tuska Open Air (Fin), Obscene Extreme Fest (CZ), SteelFest (Fin), Kill-Town DeathFest (DK), and NRW DeathFest (Ger) throughout the past 7 years.

CRUCIAMENTUM (uk) – Profound Lore Records

Cruciamentum_photo_logo_web2Cruciamentum was formed in England during 2007 and recorded their first demo, “Rotten Flesh Crucifix” which was limited to 30 copies in 2008. The second demo, “Convocation of Crawling Chaos” was released in 2009 and led to the band quickly signing to Nuclear Winter Records. 2011 saw both the release of “Eroding Chaos unto Ascendant Flesh” (released on Hell’s Headbangers), a split 7” with Vasaleth from the US, and the MLP/CD “Engulfed in Desolation” (released on Nuclear Winter Records). Cruciamentum have played live extensively throughout their short career, and have built a reputation of being a powerful live act. They have toured Europe with Sonne Adam (Century Media Records), twice in the US with Anhedonist (Dark Descent Records), performed at festivals such as Maryland Deathfest (US), Chaos in Tejas (US), Hell’s Pleasure (Ger), Kill-Town Deathfest (Den), NRW Deathfest (Ger), Black Mass Ritual III (Fin), Martydroom Festival (US), as well as having performed numerous dates in Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Holland, Italy, Greece and Romania amongst others. 2015 saw the much awaited release of Cruciamentum’s debut album “Charnel Passages” on Profound Lore Records, with a vinyl version following shortly after on Me Saco Un Ojo. Cruciamentum performs dark, violent death metal influenced by Immolation, Demigod, Incantation, Absu, Slayer, Morbid Angel, Mystifier, Disembowelment etc.

DEGIAL (uk) – Sepulchral Voice Records

degial-bandpic3DEGIAL from Uppsala, Sweden is a blackened death metal outfit part of the infamous “Uppsala Metal ov Death” club with members of Watain, Invidious and Vorum. Their music can best be described as dark occult blackened Death Metal with lyrical themes about death, chaos and blasphemy.

In times when the renunciation of the origin is fashionable and dilutes its essence, DEGIAL comes and redefines the abominable sacred core of Death metal!

After the successful debut “Death’s Striking Wings” in 2011 and the praised sophomore album “Savage Mutiny” in 2015 they return with the most violent & merciless album in their career. “Predator Reign” is an intonation of the devil´s wrath and it is a lesson in how Death Metal has to sound and how it is to be presented. A 39 minutes ride of perfectly skilled and performed furiousity. A top notch production by Mersus in the Underground-Studio and a straight but bewitching artwork by Paolo Girardi and Erik Danielsson leave no questions unanswered. Gasp for air within a pure maelstrom of crushing riffs, drum-explosions, solo-shredding and bestial vocals. Moreover, among all this madness the band is still able to create mind-ripping harmonies that will haunt your dreams.

While others try to get rid of the danger and violence in the devil´s music, DEGIAL let in all the murderers, the ancient ones, the morbid angels & the possessed slayers and spit out sheer terror & destruction. Where others nightmares end, DEGIAL begin. So bleed for the devil. With albums like “Predator Reign”, he repays thousand fold. Godspeed, live and light. Welcome death and night!

DEMILICH (fin) – Svart Records

Demilich have deservedly become one of the most legendary bands to emerge from the Finnish metal underground. While they are obscure in the grand scheme of things, they are well known in the metal underground and probably need no introduction to most underground death metal fans as they could be considered one of the most important bands in codifying the “dissonant and technical” strain of death metal alongside Quebec’s Gorguts.

The sheer experimentation of this music represents a progression of the genre of death metal that has seldom been equalled elsewhere, and the music is much more complex than it first appears on the surface.

The band was created in Kuopio, Finland during 1990, established by vocalist / guitarist Antti Boman, bass player Jussi Teräsvirta plus drummer Mikko Virnes. The cassette demos ‘Regurgitation Of Blood’ and ‘The Four Instructive Tales… Of Decomposition’ surfaced the following year, after which Barathrum guitarist Aki Hytönen was added to the roster. ‘…Somewhere Inside The Bowels Of Endlessness…’ followed in 1992. In February 1993 Demilich released their debut album, ‘Nespithe’ which has later become an underground classic. The band initially disbanded in 1993, but was resurrected in 2005-2006 again in 2010 and now active since 2014 with an American tour under their belt among several festival performances.

The band’s live performance is consistently fantastic; this is demanding material from a technical standpoint and the four members of Demilich are more than up to the challenge of performing it. This music genuinely sounds like it was composed and performed by aliens!

DRUID LORD (us) – Hells Headbangers Records

Druid Lord was formed in the scorching wastelands of Orlando, Florida in 2010 by guitarist Pete Slate (Acheron, Equinox) , bassist/vocalist Tony Blakk (Acheron, Equinox, Diabolic) and original drummer Stephen Spillers (Equinox). All veterans of the FL early 90’s Death Metal scene they felt it was time to evoke something new and cryptic. From the beginning, the band’s intent was and still is to create crushing songs that take inspiration from early death metal (Possessed, Necrovore, Autopsy) and the heavy riffing of ’70s and ’80s doom bands like Cirith Ungol, Winter, and Celtic Frost. Druid Lord take considerable influence from old horror films and the classic movies of Lucio Fulci, Mario Bava, Dario Argento, and John Carpenter. It’s a journey that takes twists and turns within the music giving the listener a feeling of constant dread.

Druid Lord released their debut album, “Hymns for the Wicked”, in 2010 on Horror, Pain, Gore, Death productions. The album gained an impressive strong underground following in a short period of time.  Over the years a series of EP’s and split records were released including the haunting “Druid Death Cult” and “Baron Blood” EP’s for Doomentia Records. The band went through some various changes over the course of 2015 with current drummer Elden Santos joining the band and adding the perfect piece to their gloomy ensemble.

In 2018, Druid Lord released their 2nd full length album “Grotesque Offerings” with the support of Hells Headbangers, spreading their supernatural death and doom far and wide. The album recorded at Tony Blakk’s own Blakk Magik Studios and mixed/mastered by Mikko Saastamoinen (Hooded Menace) had been festering within the band for the last few years and has received high praises in the death/doom scene. Haunted castles, witchcraft, the occult, the living dead, dark folklore, and cryptic stories: no ancient stone is left unturned here.
Summer of 2018 saw the addition of guitarist Chris Wicklein from the FL Death Metal band Killing Addiction replacing Ben Ross. A series of live shows followed and now  in 2019 Druid Lord continues to write new music for an upcoming EP as well as planning tours and festivals in support of “Grotesque Offerings”.

ENCOFFINATION (us) – Selfmadegod Records

Encoffination formed in 2009 to embrace the darkest doom of death… to literally crawl with agonized chords and death bellows. This two-piece earthmover of pure sonic death has released four albums, various splits, 7″s, compilations, and MLPs over the last 10 years. Their latest album, 2019’s “We Proclaim Your Death, O’ Lord” sees the band at their most vociferous and unhinged – pure aural assault of tortured death agony. Formed by Justin from fellow death metallers Father Befouled and Wayne from Decrepitaph, the band has seen successful shows across the southeast and east coast, with spots at Blood Of The Wolf and Maryland Deathfest in 2017. After almost 10 years together, Wayne stepped back from live duties in 2018, with Amos Rifkin (Death of Kings, Deceased, Father Befouled) taking up the reigns behind the drums.

After a very successful, albeit short, European campaign in May 2019, with Father Befouled, Krypts, and Jupiterian, the band returned home and only played one show for the remainder of 2019 supporting FaithXtractor in a one-off in Atlanta. Though a band that does not tour often, they pick and choose their live assaults wisely in order to level audiences and leave them wanting more. Encoffination is poised yet again to crawl out from their fetid tombs.

EXECRATION (no) – Metal Blade Records

Execration is an experimental death metal outfit from Oslo, Norway that was started in 2006. Execration released their first EP Language Of The Dead on Entartete Musik in 2007. In August 2008 the full-length album Syndicate Of Lethargy was released on Vendlus Records. Execrations second full length album Odes Of The Occult (2011) parts with the percussive style of previous releases in favor of a wider set of influences drawing from death metal, doom and cult black metal.

On their third and fourth full-length albums, the band takes a step forward and to the left, incorporating new elements to their sound, spanning a wide set of genres, from black to heavy metal. Refining their already unique take on doomy, atmospheric death metal, and throwing in a multitude of refreshing twists and turns, Morbid Dimensions and Return to the Void are documents of a band carving out their very own niche. Unafraid of opting for unusual and daring solutions to get exactly where they want to be, delivering death metal that draws clear influences from the old days without being “retro”, and that sounds fresh without ever resembling the mass-produced and soulless, modern technical death metal.

FATHER BEFOULDED (us) – Dark Descent Records

Formed in 2006, Father Befouled play unholy and desolate death metal. After some demo tracks online garnered interest, an EP, “Profano ad Regnum” was released in 2008 and the band began playing regional shows in the US. A full length, “Obscurus Nex Cultus” quickly followed and after more shows and a couple of split releases, the band signed to Relapse Records for the release of “Morbid Destitution of Covenant” in 2010. The band laid low for a couple of years before playing the inaugural Martyrdoom Festival in New York in 2012, which coincided with the release of their third full length, “Revulsion of Seraphic Grace” on Dark Descent Records. 2015 saw the release of “Enthroning Desolation” – a compilation of demo, split, live, and rare tracks – and a short tour of the East Coast. In 2017 the band headlined the Blood of the Wolf Festival in Lexington, Kentucky, as well as a performance at Maryland Deathfest to celebrate the release of their fourth album “Desolate Gods.” The band embarked on their first European tour in May of 2019, releasing an EP, “Holy Rotten Blood,” and capping off with a performance at the Netherlands Deathfest. The rest of 2019 into 2020 the band will work on their next album and prepare for a few shows before appearing at Kill-Town.

FETID (us) – 20 Buck Spin

Fetid came to being in 2016 with the name change from the dissolved cadaver of Of Corpse, a band two thirds of the members played in from 2013 leading up to the formation of Fetid. In a lot of ways Of Corpse was the beginning of what we hear in Fetid today. Where Of Corpse were heavier (or should we say faster) on the grind side of extreme metal, Fetid delves deeper into absolute gut-wrenching and bowel-extracting death metal heaviness. The duo was joined by Chelsea on bass, who also plays in Seattle death grind band Cauterized, after the name change and started playing local shows and arranged to record a demo.

In 2017 the band released their debut demo suitably entitled “Sentient Pile of Amorphous Rot”, though Headsplit Records and later in the year Extremely Rotten Productions, a showcase of the bands undeniably disgusting and brutally heavy grinding death metal with ultra low tuning and vile deep growls.

In June 2019 Fetid are released their debut full length Steeping Corporeal Mess” through US Northwest extreme music label 20 Buck Spin to much acclaim.

FUNEBRARUM (us) – Pulverized Records

FUNEBRARUM is a New Jersey-based death metal band formed in 1999 by vocalist, Daryl Kahan (Abazagorath, Citizens Arrest, Assuck) and guitarist, Nick Orlando (Evoken, Putrefact, Asmodeus). They play a heavy and dark variety of death metal driven by the early days of the late 80’s underground. Some of their early inspirations were bands like Autopsy, Bolt Thrower, Necrovore, Repulsion as well as brutal Swedish and Finnish bands like Nihilist, Demigod and Funebre etc..

The band has gone through many line-up changes over the years but is now playing and recording with a steady line-up sonsisting of Daryl Kahan plus members of Ascended Dead, Necrosic, Trepanation and Chthe’ilist. With this line-up the band entered Volume Five studios to record their latest release “Exhumation of the Ancient Dead” on Doomentia Records / Morbid Wrath. Followed by a performance at Netherlands Deathfest and successful European tours with Interment (swe) and Phrenelith (dk).

Once again the band has a line-up of people dedicated to death metal and know how it should be played.

GALVANIZER (fin) – Me Saco Un Ojo / Everlasting Spew Records

Formed in 2013 as a one-man project, it grew to 2 members in August 2014 and they recorded their debut demo “Ground Above” later that year. The demo offered their first take on brutal, grinding death metal with lots of energy, grittiness and overall crudity to the recording production and song writing. 2015 saw their first release with a new drummer and therefore a solid line-up for the band and they recorded and released the EP “Horrid Tales of Death” which showed improvement in song writing, production and deliverance and followed the release with playing shows several places in Finland and Denmark in 2016. They recorded their debut album “Sanguine Vigil” that was released in early 2018 to much praise from the international metal community.

HOODED MENACE (fin) – Season of Mist

Hooded Menace was formed in Joensuu, Finland in 2007 by Lasse Pyykkö (also known from the Finnish cult death metal band Phlegethon). Very much influenced by the 80´s Candlemass, early Cathedral and Paradise Lost, Autopsy, Asphyx and Winter, the band wanted to play really doom-laden death metal that combined crushing and somber riffs with a hint of melody. Many of their lyrics are inspired by the classic 1970s Spanish horror series The Blind Dead that included the films “Tombs of the Blind Dead”, “Return of the Evil Dead”, “Horror of the Zombies”, and “Night of the Seagulls”.

Hooded Menace have released albums on various labels such as Relapse, Profound Lore and Doomentia. The band is currently signed to Season of Mist who released the group’s fifth album “Ossuarium Silhouettes Unhallowed” in January 2018. Hooded Menace have toured Europe and the US, opened for legendary bands such as Candlemass, Saint Vitus and Electric Wizard, and played festivals like Roadburn, Hellfest, Maryland Deathfest, California Deathfest, Netherlands Deathfest, Tuska, Party.San Open Air, Obscene Extreme and many more.

Hooded Menace include vocalist Harri Kuokkanen (Horse Latitudes, Hail Conjurer), Pekka Koskelo on drums (Vacant Coffin, Ruinebell), and 3/4 of the original Phlegethon line-up with Lasse Pyykkö (also Vacant Coffin, Claws, Ruinebell) and Teemu Hannonen on guitars, and most recently, Jussi Nyblom as a live-bassist.

HYPERDONTIA (tr/dk) – Dark Descent Records

Since releasing their debut album and playing their first ever gig back at KTDF 2018 this next band has been has on a steady trail of domination across Europe and the US, leaving necks broken, spleens ruptured and minds shattered in the wake.

After the Turkish/Danish band released the ‘Abhorrence Veil’ 7” in 2017, Hyperdontia’s debut album, ‘Nexus of Teeth’, was released to rabid response by Dark Descent Records and Me Saco Un Ojo Records just in time for Kill-Town’s resurrection. The album’s dynamic combination of brooding heaviness and skilfully executed technicality quickly thrust the band to the forefront of the current Death Metal scene. One new track later featured on the band’s 2019 ‘A Vessel Forlorn’ compilation release, which demonstrates an unrelenting intensity that sets expectations high for the new material that the band recently recorded. These new recordings will see the unlight of day in the coming months.

KRYPTS (fin) – Dark Descent Records

During their formation in 2008, the vision behind Krypts was to play Death metal, while in the past decade their sound has evolved more complex and sinister. The core sound has remained the same: a dark mixture of Death & Doom metal.

Krypts have steadily spread their reputation and played around the world. However their first concert outside Finland, and second live show ever, was 10 years ago in the first edition of KTDF. Having witnessed also its funeral, Krypts are eager to return and play one of their few European dates at this year’s festival.

Come prepared! You will be hypnotized under the spell of atmospheric Death Doom…

MORTIFERUM (us) – Profound Lore Records

Hailing from Olympia WA, Mortiferum was formed by Max Bowman (guitars, vocals), Chase Slaker (guitars), and Alex Mody (drums, vocals). Their various bands (Bone Sickness, Ēōs) had played shows together regularly in the local scene as the members shared a mutual interest in Finnish and American death metal, and had a similar vision for the music they wanted to play.

In 2016, after several failed attempts to get a band going, the members got together and wrote the songs that became the first demo “Altar of Decay”. They enlisted the help of Dan Fried (Triumvir Foul, Anhedonist) to fill in on bass, and recorded “Altar of Decay” in Mody’s garage. Tracking guitars and drums live in their own space, with part-time keyboard player Ethan Camp as the engineer, Mortiferum were able to capture the songs in their most visceral form. Shortly afterward, Mortiferum recruited Tony Wolfe as their full time bassist. The demo was released by the band themselves and furthermore assisted by an LP release from Profound Lore Records and on cassette by Graceless Records in the US and Extremely Rotten Productions in Europe. Within a year of the release of “Altar of Decay”, Mortiferum embarked on tours with Spectral Voice, Hyperdontia, and Fetid, made numerous fest appearances including the Killtown Death Fest – The Resurrection and finally recorded and released their debut full length, “Disgorged From Psychotic Depths”.

Profound Lore writes “Mortiferum follow-up their lauded 2017 Altar Of Decay demo with their debut LP, Disgorged From Psychotic Depths. With the recognition the band received from within the death metal underground through their demo alongside consistent touring and nonstop live activity, Mortiferum had already brought awareness upon themselves as one of the more notable and promising new US death metal bands today. With Disgorged From Psychotic Depths, the monstrous offering Mortiferum have spewed forth crawls as an anguished slab of death doom filth of the most wretched order. Dark and foreboding through monolithic brutal crestfallen riffs and malformed dissonant rhythmic rumblings, Disgorged From Psychotic Depths is a towering and dreadful benefaction of atmospheric imposing death metal ruin and depravity reeking of the stench of the early ‘90s American and Finnish death metal scenes.”

NECROS CHRISTOS (de) – Sepulchral Voice Records

Raised through magic and mysticism in late 2001 by guitarist/vocalist Mors Al Ra while soon becoming famous for delivering some of the most dark yet epic Death Metal ever.

In 2011 NECROS CHRISTOS released its second full length album Doom of the Occult through german labels Sepulchral Voice and Ván Records.

The album featured nine songs alongside numerous acoustic interludes for which the band became infamously known for since its creation a decade earlier.

A sonic mass, constructed like a classical oratorio, equally unique and disturbing.

With their first full length album released in 2007 named Triune Impurity Rites, the band gained a worldwide following without leaving behind the atmosphere of the demos – two of which had legendary status already.

Supreme live performances were held since 2005, testifying the band`s status of being one of the darkest yet most heavy Death Metal acts of today`s scene.

OF FEATHER AND BONE (us) – Profound Lore Records

Emerging from their Rocky Mountain crypts, Of Feather and Bone spread their virulent strain of cryptic death metal on Bestial Hymns of Perversion, due March 9, 2018 on Profound Lore Records. Bassist/vocalist AS and Guitarist/vocalist DG herald the endtimes with a dual guttural onslaught atop an everflowing stream of grime-caked riffs and PW’s whirlwind of blasts and d-beats. Invoking the claustrophobia of Autopsy and the visceral disgust of Incantation and Bolt Thrower, Of Feather and Bone’s relentless death assault serves as the soundtrack to mankind’s fall.

After garnering substantial praise for their long sold-out 2016 demo, Of Feather and Bone returned to Goldberg Studios during the summer of 2017 with Steve Goldberg (Cephalic Carnage) at the helm. Mastered by the mighty Dan Lowndes at Resonance Sound and featuring stunning cover art courtesy of Stefan Todorovic, Bestial Hymns of Perversion’s seven tracks of unrelenting death metal portend the the destruction of the modern age.

OSSUARY (us) – Me Saco Un Ojo Records

Formed in the frigid Wisconsin winter of 2015, Ossuary is the manifestation of power through grief, misanthropy, and the total worship of death. Inspired by visceral loss, fueled by the agony of hopelessness, the band has no use for self-indulgent displays of technicality. Ossuary is thick, black, and scathingly sluggish–a murky, hateful exhibition of death.

After four years of hibernation following 2015’s Cremation Ritual, Ossuary gave us their second self-recorded release, Supreme Degradation, in the spring of 2019. The original cassette release from Darkness Shall Rise and the reissue from Maggot Stomp have both sold out, but a release on vinyl is set to come later this year from MSUO. The band has toured the United States and is traveling to Total Death Over Mexico this March. Killtown Death Fest will be their first European appearance.

PISSGRAVE (us) – Profound Lore Records

Pissgrave aimlessly destroy with their barrage of violent, raw, and depraved death metal. They have earned much praise in the American metal underground, especially after supporting Dead Congregation on a short U.S. tour in the fall of 2014 – which showcased the band’s devastating live set. Their debut release Suicide Euphoria (Profound Lore Records) has been hailed by many as one of the best underground death metal releases of 2015.

PROCESSION (cl/swe/dk) – High Roller Records

Procession_2013a-300x170Formed in Chile in 2006 and currently about to unleash their new opus “Doom Decimation” (High Roller Records, 2017), Procession are no new-name for the lovers of heavy sound, weeping guitars, pounding drums and majestic vocals. After re-locating to Sweden in 2009 and with one EP and two full-lenght releases out, they have managed to tremble the festival scene in Europe as well as gathering up a loyal fan-base of both old and young doom-heads all over the continent. The new album follows the lead and traces left on “To Reap Heavens Apart” (acclaimed by many as “the” doom metal album of 2013) which means traditional doom metal performed with a great sense of melody, strong production, classic heavy metal structures and lyrics for the end of times. Not to miss out by the fans of the likes of Black Sabbath, Candlemass, Solstice, Iron Maiden or Judas Priest…’coz when the scando-southamerican iron fist of doom will hit you, there is no escape!

PROFANATICA (us) – Season of Mist

Forever the iconoclasts, PROFANATICA are both black metal legends and defiant of such concepts of “legendary.” As one of earliest American black metal bands, during the dark ‘n’ bloody days of the early 1990s, PROFANATICA set out upon a course of utter blasphemy and barbaric primitivism, then retreated into the shadows as a cult icon, only to be resurrected years later once the black metal scene had finally caught up with their invention/degradation. When they returned, with Profanatitas de Domonatia in 2007, the signature PROFANATICA sound was firmly in place, and yet masters Paul Ledney and John Gelso continued to challenge themselves and push this pulsing primitivism to uncharted waters of sin ‘n’ sickness. Three years later, Disgusting Blasphemies Against God pushed the envelope even further, and yet three more years again, 2013’s Thy Kingdom Cum climaxed all over that envelope. Now, with The Curling Flame of Blasphemy, PROFANATICA have gone back to the beginning while re-imagining their signature sound in the subtlest and yet somehow-most-powerful way.

Arguably the band’s crudest and most primitive full-length thus far, The Curling Flame of Blasphemy bulldozes into being with a crushing, blown-out explosion of sound, setting out PROFANATICA’s stall and drawing a very firm line in the sand: you either submit to its gloriously hypnotic blasphemy or get trampled under cloven, obsidian hoof. Paul Ledney’s idiosyncratic approach to rudimentary/elevated-mind drumming forms the backbone by which John Gelso sends out wave upon wave of tense, vertigo-inducing riff, layering the bulldoze with chilling counterpoint that sends the vertigo into overdrive and creates a perverse disconnect from the sonic wreckage going on all around them. All the while, Ledney’s charred-black vomits cut through the crush to spill forth verbal desecration, profaning the pure and defiling dog’s creation as only he can. Together, both masterminds behind PROFANATICA underline an already incontrovertible fact: despite a decade or two of the black metal scene pilfering from them, no one sounds like PROFANATICA. Thus, The Curling Flame of Blasphemy never dies, never relents – from a flicker into an inferno – and both its heat and light shall serve as a guide for future generations of devotees/descecrators.

PROFETUS (fin) – Avantgarde Music

Profetus is a Funeral Doom collective from Tampere, Finland. Originated in 2006, they have created their own craft, a fine blend of 90s Finnish Funeral Doom tradition and Death Metal aesthetics; music that is bleak and crushingly heavy, utterly beautiful, cinematic and meditating. Minimalistic compositions moving at a glacial pace invoke a haunting journey to a world of obscurity.

Profetus has released 4 albums this far, and played tours with like-minded bands as Bell Witch and Mournful Congregation and took part of festivals like Roadburn, Heavy days in Doomtown and Finnish Death Metal Maniacs Fest. In a live context the extreme spatial qualities of Funeral Doom offer a rare setting for personal subliminal excavations.

In it’s current line-up A. Mäkinen (guitar, vocals) is joined by M. Mäkelä (baritone guitar, vocals), M. Saarikoski (guitar) V. Kujansuu (drums) and M. Nieminen (organ, synth).

SADISTIC INTENT (us) – Iron Pegasus Records

Sadistic Intent is a Death Metal horde hailing from Los Angeles, CA which was formed in the fall of 1987. Taking influence by the original Death/Black Metal groups such as Slayer, Possessed, Dark Angel, Destruction, Venom, Sodom, Celtic Frost and so forth.

At a time when Death/Black Metal was no longer popular as it was in the mid 80’s, Sadistic Intent were one of the handful of groups in the United States raising the flag of Death Metal! After a couple of rehearsal tapes and demos the band earned a name for itself in the international underground scene and decided to sign with Wild Rags Records. In 1990 the “Impending Doom” EP was released and a few tours followed in Mexico as well as the States! In 1991 Sadistic Intent self released a 7” EP titled “A Calm before the Storm” and split shortly after.

In 1994 the Cortez brothers brought back Sadistic Intent from the dead with the properly titled “Resurrection” MCD the first recording in which Bassist Bay Cortez would also handle the vocal. The band kept busy on the live West Coast circuit especially in Los Angeles now being recognized as a headlining act upon the local scene. In 1995 Sadistic Intent released a demo titled “Ancient Black Earth” reprinted in 1996 the same year they were featured on a successful tribute to Celtic Frost.

In 1998 the band released a split 7” EP with a German Black Metal group called Ungod through Merciless Records (Ger.). In 1999 Sadistic Intent recorded a song for a tribute to California’s legendary Possessed on which Jeff Becerra, original Possessed front man is actually featured on vocals! That same year the band recorded for yet another Dwell Records tribute, this time for L.A.’s own Slayer which literally introduced Sadistic Intent to thousands of “slaytanic” fans!

In 2007, Jeff Becerra would eventually ask the Cortez brothers to help reform Possessed. Sadistic Intent would tour as Possessed with Jeff Becerra on vocals from 2007 to 2010.In 2014 Sadistic Intent released Reawakening Horrid Thoughts, a 12-inch laser-etched EP through Iron Pegasus Records.

Throughout the years, Sadistic Intent has toured in various countries around the world such as Norway, Brazil, Finland, Mexico, Germany, Chile, Holland, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Greece, Belgium, Australia, Singapore, and USA.

SHAAM LAREIN (swe) – Icons Creating Evil Art

Shaam Larein (SWE) started in 2018. The music is written by Shaam herself,  with the female voice in focus. But with the bands perspective and ideas that comes and goes, makes the sound complete.

It’s loud and heavy, it promote the listener’s experience and at the same time throws a new perspective by providing the heavier music with a different color palette.

Shaam was brought up on stage, acting in her father’s travelling theatre. Together they traveled performing his works while Shaam found her own voice. She spent a couple of years singing jazz in her early 20’s but the subsequent years of silence were the catalyst to create the music that takes shape within ‘Sculpture’. Her blood streams from the Middle East but she was brought up in the cumulative scenery of art and music in Stockholm. ‘Sculpture’ is the coalescence of these to worlds.
She is walking the streets with PJ Harvey singing in her ears, has a little love for the life of Carmela Soprano, and Billie Holiday wakes her up with coffee in the morning.

Knowing that she is only in the beginning of her artistic life lead her to gather a posse of inspiring artists to help her create the visual world of her music.  This world came to realization with many integral parts: The art of the album cover is created by Pelle Åhman, picturing the very feeling of what’s inside her mind. The layout is pieced together by Erik Danielsson. The cover of debut single ‘Aurora’ and the upcoming single ‘Traveler’ were conceived by Luciana Lupe Vasconcelos; picturing the female presence in a perfect act of the Goddess. The first video to be made is crafted by Gottfrid Åhman, visualizing the core of her creation. An esoteric and estetic universe of like-minded artists coming together, fleshing out and giving shape to the power and grace of Shaam’s first gift to the world of music.

SIJJINN (de) – Sepulchral Voice Records

From beyond the gates of perception, the new power trio of Sijjin arrives on the scene. Deeply rooted in the 80ties, where Death and Thrash Metal melted into a furious, fast and occult brand, Sijjin`s music is as raving as this music should be. The lineup of Sijjin consists of old veterans as Malte Gericke (Bass & Vocals) and Ivan Hernandez (Drums) are both being known for their work in Necros Christos, while guitar wizard Ekaitz Garmendia hailing from Basque Thrashers Legen Beltza among others.

The first demo entitled Angel Of The Eastern Gate was unleashed in 2019, officially distributed by Sepulchral Voice Records on tape.

Behold, as this is Death Metal.

Feel your mind being shifted into a black void of utter chaos, where primeval atoms still roam in bizarre ways, a region of horrible contortions, where amorphous entities lurk in the towering shadows.
There`s one name, one entity and one aural destruction for all of that.

Hell is Sijjin.
Sijjin is in Hell.

SPECTRAL VOICE (us) – Dark Descent Records

The Spectral Voice crawled out of the doomed abyss of Denver, Colorado (USA) in late 2012 to play slow rotting death/doom from beyond the grave. Focusing on gloomy funeral atmosphere and ancient death-metal feeling. Their early performances and rehearsal tapes were well received and word of their morbid aura quickly spread through the underground. January 2015 saw their first official release, the “Necrotic Doom” demo, which sold 300 copoes before their first West Coast tour in March the same year. Eventually selling over 700 copies, the cassette was re-released in Europe through Iron Bonehead Productions (DE) and again on compact disc by Dark Descent Records (USA). In September they released as split 7″ with Blood Incantation (USA), and made their first East Coast appearance at Martyrdoom Festival IV in New York City. Following the success of their demo and 7″, the band played covenant festival ii (CAN) in June 2016 and embarked on the massive “Melting Across America” tour with Undergang (DK) during July. By the end of the year they had played California Deathfest, Metal Threat Festival (both USA) and released a split 7″ with Denmark’s Phrenelith, as well as vinyl repress of “necrotic doom”. In February 2017 the band will record their debut album, to be released by Dark Descent Records in time for their first European tour in October 2017. While the band’s recent splits hint at a faster, more traditional death metal style, the full length will descend into crypts more dismal and necrotic than the demo, pushing their sound even deeper into funerary horror and despair…

STARGAZER (aus) – Nuclear War Now! Records

Over twenty-five years ago, in Adelaide, Australia, guitarist Denny Blake (Martire, Cauldron Black Ram, Misery’s Omen) founded StarGazer after the inital demise of the short-lived but locally influential death metal band, Intellect Devourer, along with bassist Damon Good (Mournful Congregation, Cauldron Black Ram, Martire). From the outset, the union of Blake (aka The Serpent Inquisitor) and Good (aka The Great Righteous Destroyer) was alchemical, a whole greater than the sum of its parts.

The band’s earliest recordings from the mid- 1990s can best be described as black/death metal, evincing a rare combination of sophistication and ferocity and imbued with the frenzied, manic sound common to many of StarGazer’s Australian peers. In their first decade, StarGazer maintained a deliberately sparse yet flawless catalog, with just a handful of releases to their name. It wasn’t until 2005 that the band’s debut album The Scream That Tore the Sky came out. By then, their style had evolved tremendously, mutating into a sound that was brutal without redundancy, experimental without pretension, and technical without sterility.

With their next two albums, A Great Work of Ages and A Merging to the Boundless, the breadth of the band’s palate increased dramatically, making StarGazer one of the most genuinely groundbreaking bands in metal. Their sound runs the gamut— executed with unparalleled agility, reckless and feral assaults dissolve into delicate, crystalline passages conjuring some otherworldly element. Blake’s and Good’s extraordinary musicianship and faithful dedication to the spirit of metal has made them uniquely positioned to explore the perimeter of the genre, where they create consistently provocative music without straying so far outside the lines as to dilute or compromise the band’s stylistic integrity.

The lyrical and thematic concepts undergirding the music are equally refined, frequently exploring myriad forms of occult knowledge with an emphasis on Occidental and Oriental mysticism. Live, StarGazer are nothing short of awe-inspiring. The helical coil of the guitar and serpentine bass, each animated and independent, wind around the ecstatic tumult of percussion, summoned together in a way that almost defies belief.

SUFFERING HOUR (us) – Blood Harvest Records

Suffering Hour is a Black/Death metal band from MN. Formed as a thrash metal band in 2010 under a previous moniker, the trio steadily began delving into the darker depths of black metal and death metal. 2017 saw the release of their debut full length “In Passing Ascension” on Blood Harvest records to high critical acclaim. Quickly gaining recognition from the album and its unique and excellently crafted songwriting, Suffering Hour starting playing a handful of scattered live shows in the US in 2018, opening for a slew of heavy hitters and most notably: Covenant Fest in Montreal and Maryland Deathfest. Suffering Hour will be releasing a new EP on Blood Harvest in 2019 and continuing their live expeditions far and wide.

TAPHOS (dk) – Blood Harvest Records

Taphos was spawned in 2015 with the purpose to create music that evokes desperation and hopelessness. Their music is rooted in death and draws inspirations from all darker aspects of life and life thereafter.

The first eruption took place in form of the demo MMXVI and an EP, named MMXVII, followed soon after. Same year Taphos entered Ballade Studios where enough chaos was captured to produce what will be their first full-length. An aftershock from this seance took place in form of the ‘Premonition’ tape.

The debut full-length “Come Ethereal Somberness” was unleashed in May 2018 through Blood Harvest Records.

TOMB MOLD (can) – 20 Buck Spin

Toronto death metal band Tomb Mold started in 2016 as a 2 person project. Having played music together over numerous years, Derrick and Max knew exactly how they wanted to approach this, both from a sound and visual perspective. The goal was simply recording one or two demo tapes and then calling it a day. So much for that. Due to an overwhelming response to “The Bottomless Perdition”, they decided to work with Blood Harvest on “Primordial Malignity” to continue building their sound using the foundation of Finnish style death metal, their first full length. After the 2nd tape “The Moulting”, they turned Tomb Mold into a 4 piece touring band adding long-time friends and former band-mates Steve and Payson on bass and guitar respectively. Their 2nd full length was released with 20 Buck Spin, and “Manor of Infinite Forms” showcases their departure from playing a specific style of death metal and just writing anything they feel comfortable with. As the label puts it, “Constructing monumental towers of obscure shape, jarring yet coherent, Tomb Mold compositions evoke a distorted world alongside our own where all manner of oddity and peculiarity are permitted.” It also continued to build on the cosmic, insectoid infected universe they have been building through their music with the help of Brad Moore’s legendary artwork. Since then they have started touring and playing fests and have had the opportunity to tour with top tier bands like Horrendous and Of Feather and Bone. Continuing on with this momentum, expect to see more music released in 2019.

VENENUM (de) – Sepulchral Voice Records

Formed in Nürnberg, Germany in 2008 from the ashes of the too soon defunct Excoriate, Venenum strikes mercilessly with their Heavy Metal of Death! In March 2017 they finally released their much anticipated debut album “Trance of Death” through Sepulchral Voice Records. The album had been 6 year in the making following their highly praised self-titled debut EP. “Trance of Death” is a masterpiece of epic proportions and has hit several top 10 lists of 2017. With such an album under their belt, one can assume that Venenum is a band that for sure will leave its mark in the Death Metal legacy. Mixing asphyxiating riffs of heaviness and eerie passages of morbid darkness, Venenum definitely knows how to combine the best of death and darkness into their age-old Metal cauldron.

Massively praised by the relevant music press and many veterans (i.e. Fenriz and Frank Stöver), Venenum started touring across Europe with bands such as Sonne Adam, Tribulation/Ketzer/Alchemyst, Watain/Degial and latest in Aptil with Reveal from Sweden. Additionally they have played dozens of club shows and festivals in the North, South, East, and West, of Europe like Hells Pleasure, Party San Open Air, Wolfthrone Festival, Hell Over Hammaburg etc., always convincing with their stunning live shows and remarkable appearances. In March 2017 Venunum toured Eruope with Sweden´s Reveal and again in February of 2018 they hit the roads of Europe with Denmarks Slægt for the succesfull “Europe in Trance tour”.

DEMON HEAD (dk) – Metal Blade Records

Demon head is the long lasting constellation of five internationally based and widely acclaimed musicians; Mikkel Fuglsang (Nigrum, Zyfilis), Birk Gjerlufsen Nielsen (Vanessa Amara, Øresund Space Collective), Marcus Ferreira Larsen (Junta, Planet Y, Zyfilis), Thor Gjerlufsen Nielsen and Jeppe Wittus. Though hesitant to compromise the description of the music they perform through generalizing terms of genre, they’ve coined the term DIABOLIC ROCK as an appropriate presentation.

It is important to pay attention to the journey from ‘Ride The Wilderness’ (2015), a juvenile and hungry adventure exploring the boundless courage of classic rock music, onto ‘Thunder on the Fields’ (2017) turning their inspirations further towards the strange and sinister purposes of life, a tendency followed and completed on ‘Hellfire Ocean Void’ (2019), with it’s gothic and nothing but otherworldly song-writing and production. DEMON HEAD is recognized for their uncompromising and independent practice, having written, recorded, produced, mixed, filmed, photographed, drawn, printed, chauffeured, practiced every second and every cell of the body that is DEMON HEAD, leaving their development and growth as an organism completely free from the restraints of capitalism. What is left is a vessel, containing every possibility of collectivity, courage, rebellion, daydreaming, friendship, faint hope, clenched fists and opened hearts.

Since the beginning, DEMON HEAD has been touring extensively throughout Europe on their own behalf or together with acts such as COVEN, MAGNA CARTA CARTEL, SLÆGT, ULTRA SILVAM, NIGHT, ILL WICKER and many more. They’ve been featured in magazines like METAL HAMMER, DEAF FOREVER, CLASSIC ROCK MAGAZINE, METALIZED, SWEDEN ROCK among many others. As well as appeared on high profiled festivals as COPENHELL, MUSKELROCK, VOID FEST, WONDER-FESTIWALL, to name a few.
